The City of Van Alstyne ranked the #10 Safest City in Texas out of more than 1,225 municipalities in the state by eufy. The 2026 ranking comes on the heals of the #13 ranking last year by SafeWise.

Thank you to our first responders under the leadership of our Public Safety Director, Tim Barnes. Also for the leadership of our Mayor, Jim Atchison and City Council, and our city leadership lead by City Manager, Lane Jones.

We continue to invest in the safety of our citizens. The state of the art $30-million dollar Public Safety Facility is expected to be complete before the end of this year.

We love our growing town! Thank you to the citizens of Van Alstyne! Ultimately it is YOU that makes this possible!

This is only a test…

Heads up VA! The Texas Division of Emergency Management has called for a Texas-wide test of our warning capabilities.

Grayson County OEM  will conduct the test through the CodeRED emergency notification system. Be prepared for phones, WEA notifications, sirens, televisions, weather radios, etc., to make some noise on April 2nd between a window of 10:00a and 12:30p.

If there is severe weather in the forecast the siren portion of the test may not happen in order to avoid confusion. It is important to remember that this is a test and there is no reason to call 911 unless there is an actual emergency. The test is designed to stress test warning capabilities to be better prepared for an actual emergency should one occur.

US 75 to be Closed

Southbound US 75 to shut down from Exit 50 to White Street in Collin County from 9pm - 5am the evenings of April 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Traffic will be pushed to the southbound frontage road at exit 50 and enter SB US 75 south of Rosamond.

New Senior Center is OPEN!

The new Senior Center is open at it's new location. It has a lot more room than the previous location and the seniors love it!

Public Safety Facility Update

The new Public Safety Facility is nearing completion on time and on budget. Monday's 'Topping" event underscores the progress made and the City of Van Alstyne's commitment to our first responders and public safety.

Patriotic Decoration Contest!

Patriotic Decoration Contest in Van Alstyne is underway. The Applebys accepted the challenge! If you are participating let us know and we might swing by your house or business.

Library Renovation Update
